Finding the Perfect Place
How to decide what type of living arrangements are best for your loved one.
I was lucky enough to have two terrific people for parents. They were independent spirits who raised me to be the same. They were loving and strong and smart. They fell in love in their mid-20s and stayed that way until the end. Married 62 years and spent it all together. They had a wonderful life. But their happily ever after didn't have a very happy ending: Dementia robbed them of that.
What I learned during their "storm" was that no one prepares you for what happens when your loved one (or in my case, both of them) suffer a steep decline in their health coupled with increased dementia — and what in the world you are supposed to do first, second, third...ninth, etc. This is probably because everyone's journey is unique, but I’ve found there are definitely commonalities that arise.
Although I’m not an expert in dementia, healthcare or caregiving, I am an expert in my own life and circumstances. And I am sharing it all with you through the blogs and podcasts of Dementia, Dammit! My goal? To help you navigate the journey of your loved ones with dementia...without losing yourself in the process.
